The paths, the lanes in ...! For walking, the immediate surroundings of Buitenplaats de Mechelerhof and southern Limburg are absolutely the right place! Whether you want to stroll through the woods for hours or just want to get some fresh air, it's all possible. From your accommodation you can walk through the hills, into the woods or along the river Geul to the surrounding villages.

We are happy to help you on your way. There are already a few nice walks from Buitenplaats De Mechelerhof waiting for you free of charge at the reception desk. For the sturdy and seasoned hikers there are walking trails of about 7.5 and 15 kilometers (including through the nearby Belgian Voerstreek). We also have walking routes of 4 and 6.5 kilometers. However, you do not always need a walking map. From Buitenplaats de Mechelerhof you can also follow the many walking signs. You can also enjoy walking through the hills and past the many half-timbered farmhouses, in the direction of Vijlen if you turn left from the back of our Buitenplaats via the Kleebergerweg.

Mechelen - Wahlwiller route

Go for this beautiful hike that starts directly from our Buitenplaats. The route takes you through the hilly landscape in South Limburg towards Elzet and Wahlwiller. Enjoy the many panoramic views! Compiled by Wandelgids Zuid-Limburg.

Drielandenpunt route Vaals

Visiting three countries in one walk, it is possible in Vaals. Follow the Drielandenpunt and visit not only Germany and Belgium but also enjoy the beautiful views from the Vaalserberg. Here you can also enjoy a snack and a drink.

Erenstein Castle route

Walk along the castle's ponds, towards the Cranenweyer reservoir. Enjoy the beautiful nature, wonderful vistas and who knows, you might even spot a heron. We are fans of this route in Kerkrade.

Walking along the Geul

During this walking route you will follow the Geul river from Mechelen to Epen. Walk through the unspoiled nature of the Heuvelland region and stop for a snack or drink along the way. Follow the red posts, admire the idyllic Epermolen and enjoy the surroundings.

Mountain village Vijlen - Vaals route

Follow this beautiful route starting from Mechelen. Look out over steep hills and walk through beautiful nature. The picturesque village of Vijlen is situated on top of a hill and is known for the Martinus church, the highest situated Catholic church in the Netherlands.

Hiking route Savelsbos

Bring your dog and enjoy a challenging nature walk in this impressive hillside forest. Walk past badger setts and marl caves towards Gronsveld. Start at Restaurant de Pastory in Cadier en Keer.

Neubourg Castle route

Walk through the Heuvelland south of Gulpen along slopes and valleys. In Pesaken you pass the majestic castle Neubourg. Follow the blue poles and let yourself be led through the hamlets of Euverem, Crapoel and Landsrade. Highly recommended!

Miljoenenlijn route Simpelveld

For train lovers, this walking route is unique. You will see the station and the heritage park of the Miljoenenlijn: the historic railroad through the hills and valleys of South Limburg. With a little luck you will see the authentic steam train running.

Route des Vins Wahlwiller Eys

After walking this beautiful and educational route you will know all about the South Limburg wine around Eys and Wahlwiller. Along the way you will pass no less than five vineyards with stunning views and many wine facts.
