Blossom walks in South Limburg
A real springtime activity in South Limburg has to be cycling or walking through the blossom orchards. This stunning display of white and pale pink hues is definitely worth experiencing during your stay at the Mechelerhof. We’ve put together a few tips:
1. Blossom walk from Eijsden to Margraten
This 9.1 km route in the southernmost tip of Limburg takes you past rolling hills, picturesque villages and vast orchards. The standard trees around Mesch are in full bloom during April and May. Don’t forget to climb the viewing tower in Mesch for a stunning view. Tip: follow the blue posts.
2. Cycle the blossom route from Eijsden to Margraten
Discover the charm of the South Limburg Heuvelland as you cycle along winding roads and through green valleys. The blossom-filled orchards provide a stunning contrast to the steep slopes of this unique landscape. This 20.5 km cycle route is highly recommended if you want to see the colourful apple and pear trees in bloom.
3. The Beekdaelen Blossom Route by bike
This route takes you through the idyllic countryside of the Geleenbeek valley. The 27.2 km cycle route takes you from Sweikhuizen to Schimmert, and along the way you’ll naturally pass the fruit trees in bloom. The blossom cycle route also takes you through the well-known Danikerbos and Stammenderbos woods. In short: a lovely cycle ride where you can also discover local produce.
4. A walk past blossom trees on the Rengelaoteroute near Schinnen
This 5.6 km route takes you through the idyllic countryside around Schinnen. What’s more, the Rengelaoteroute offers a unique view of the imposing Ter Borch Castle, which towers high above the landscape.
5. Voerstreek Route
Explore the Belgian Voer region and discover the splendour of the blossoms along picturesque roads and babbling brooks on this 5.8 km walk. Enjoy the peaceful countryside and take a stroll through the orchards in full bloom.
6. Haspengouw routes featuring blossom trees
Cross the border into Belgium and explore the blossom-filled region of Haspengouw. This route takes you past vast orchards and historic castles, where you can enjoy the beautiful blossoms and the region’s rich heritage.
