Winter moments at De Mechelerhof

Sometimes it only lasts a moment... but when snow falls in the hills, everything changes. The paths become quieter, the hills softer, and the park takes on an almost fairy-tale tranquillity.

Last weekend, Marjo captured these winter moments in and around De Mechelerhof, just as they really were. No planned photo shoot, just spontaneous images taken during a walk through the park. Snow on the roofs of the half-timbered houses, footprints in the white and that typical winter light that makes South Limburg so beautiful. It is precisely these little moments that make a winter stay here so special.

These photos show how peaceful and atmospheric it can be at De Mechelerhof in winter. Whether you take a short walk outside or enjoy the warmth of your holiday home inside, this is a time to slow down, look outside and do nothing for a while.

Practical tips for snow and winter weather

When there is snow in the hills, it is good to be well prepared before setting off. A few useful tips:

  • Routes and accessibility

The main roads to Mechelen (via Gulpen or Vaals) are well maintained and gritted. The last few kilometres to the park can be a little hillier, but are generally passable.

  • Drive calmly and carefully

Especially in fresh snow or slippery conditions, we advise you to drive calmly and keep a safe distance. Winter tyres are no luxury during this period.

  • Arrival at the park

Our car parks and paths are kept as free of snow as possible. If you have any questions or need help on arrival, the reception is there to assist you.

  • Walking in the snow

Wear sturdy shoes with good tread. Many walking routes around Mechelen are also beautiful in winter, but can be slippery. Shorter and gentler walks are often the most enjoyable.
